- Macedonian translation – a language overview
Macedonian is a South Slavic language of the Indo-European family. It is the official language of the Republic of Macedonia, one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia.
The language is spoken by between two to three million people in Macedonia, as well as the diaspora. Macedonian is a recognised minority language in Albania, Romania and Serbia.
Macedonian is closely related to Bulgarian, with a degree of mutual intelligibility. The language has its own alphabet, based upon the Cyrillic script.
